covers digital literacy, Physics, and STEM concepts. Students utilize problem-solving techniques and participate in hands-on activities to develop an understanding of these course concepts. Instructor will provide each student with real-world learning and instruction.

In this course students have an opportunity to gain knowledge and develop technical skills in all aspects of the field of Robotics for manufacturing and Commercial Drone Operation.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Be a High School Junior or Senior from Barbour, Lewis and Upshur County

  • Adult Students must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Submit an Application

  • Interview with Instructor

Certifications Available

  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification

  • REC Foundation Pre-Engineering and Robotics Industry Certifications

Course Objectives

Robotics REC 1 and REC2

The VEX V5 system is used internationally by schools to teach the fundamentals of Robotics and for competitions. The curriculum includes:

  • Unit 1: Introduction to Engineering

  • Unit 2: Introduction to Robotics

  • Unit 3: Introduction to VEXnet

  • Unit 4: Introduction to Autodesk Inventor

  • Unit 5: THE GAME!

  • Unit 6: Object Manipulation

  • Unit 7: Speed, Power, Torque & DC Motors

  • Unit 8: Mechanical Power Transmission

  • Unit 9: Drivetrain Design

  • Unit 10: Lifting Mechanisms

  • Unit 11: Systems Integration

  • Unit 12: Testing and the Iteration Process

FAA Part 107 Drone License and Ground School/ Flight School

The FAA has regulated all non-recreational drone activity so that a license is required. The Part 107 license is more than just a formality. It is a comprehensive evaluation of many aspects of the aviation world, including: Aviation charts, weather forecasting, radio communications, airspace classifications, etc.

The curriculum offered at FETC covers more than 50 topics such as:

  • Drone Classification and Mechanics

  • FAA 107 Regulations and Compliance

  • Sectional Charts for Navigation

  • Airspace Classifications and Special Uses

  • Manned Aircraft Traffic Patterns and Runways

  • Operation is Various Weather Conditions

  • Crew Resource Management
